Thoughts for Thursday: Looking Good

After reading Jessica's post about the woman who loves the dollar store because she doesn't have to dress up like she goes when she goes to Walmart. Got me thinking back to an episode of Oprah when she had Trinny and Susannah on from What Not to Wear on BBCAmerica. They said that women in the U.S. tend to dress much more casual than the rest of the world. Meaning, women in other countries don't run around in sweats unless they are actually running. From what I have seen it is true. In France and London, everyone looks so put together, but can be wearing jeans. After seeing the show, I actually made a conscious effort to try and look good when I left the house to be seen in public. I do admit on occasion you will find me in a pair of fleece pants, but usually because I wasn't planning to leave the house. I don't get dressed to the nines, but I will wear jeans/pants and a at least a nicer t-shirt. I very rarely even wear a sweatshirt anymore. I will shower, do my hair and put make up on. I do that even if I'm not leaving the house. I just feel better knowing I look at the very least decent, and like an actual woman. What's your take on Looking Good? Do you try, or say the heck with it, I'm a _____ gal?

I am really a dressed down type of girl. My theory is that if my clothes are clean and sort of match, I'll go with this look. But, I think that you really do feel better about yourself if you are dressed a little bit nicer.
However, I think society puts too much emphasis on judging women based on how they look. Women should be judged on personality and inner beauty, in my opinion.

I never wear fleece or sweats in public. it's just not flattering AT ALL on me. I'm a jeans and polo, or sweater kind of girl. I usually shower and fix my hair too, so I don't scare anyone.

Mon-Fri I live in dress clothes from work until I get home. As soon as I'm home it's pj's for the night! Weekends, I live in jeans outside the house. Sweatpants in the house. I have no problem with going to Walmart, Target, or the grocery store in sweatpants though. But I'm usually just a jeans person.

i don't leave the house for work, so i don't have have to get made up or anything... and i usually shower in the afternoons most days. i am constantly running my kid around, and if i know i'm going to be in contact with people, i will make an effort not to look like i just rolled out of bed or out of my home office... but i HATE the time it takes to primp. i'm also one of those people who doesn't like to take the time to eat, it seems like such a waste! ha ha. i try not to even go to wal-mart looking scummuy.

Well, I hate feeling ugly and sloppy, but I have to admit that I've been such a slob during this pregnancy. Probably because clothes don't fit, or excited me. I'm uncomfortable in what I do have that looks nice and right now it's just not worth it. That is why I wanted to start the fat camp, so I can feel comfortable in stylish clothes, even if it's just running to the store.
